Crazy sore

Well, I missed my weekly update by 2 days. Not bad considering I'm still getting back into the swing of things.

For this round of half marathon training, I decided that I wanted to incorporate more things than just running. I wanted to add weights, arms, lunges (gasp!) and abs. With this in mind, last Monday was my first go at it.
I did legs and back. My workout consisted of lat pull downs, multiple kinds of rows, squats, lunges and plie squats. I had planned on doing 3 sets of 15 reps of everything and only managed to get 2 sets done but I was TOAST!!

I woke up Tuesday morning and could.not.move! I was doing the hobble/wobble/walk thing until Thursday! I even tried to run/walk on the treadmill on Wednesday to try and shake my legs out with no luck. By Friday, I was back to normal and was able to do 6 miles Saturday morning.

As far as food goes, I was ambitious and made a breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage for the week as well as a dinner/ lunch meal. For my dinner meal, I made shake n bake chicken tenders and roasted carrots and rutabagas.

In addition to my other expeditions, I have been working on my yard. It had these baby trees surrounding my back patio. I kept them to hide my motorcycle but since I've decided to sell my motorcycle b/c I don't have a garage, I don't need the trees anymore. I've been slowing hacking them down with a pair of lawn laupers and finally finished!

baby trees were pretty dense

Gone!

Also, this week I finally tried my new pair of running pants. They are 2XU brand and I got them for $35 instead of $80 with an ACTIVE deal. They were quite comfy and light. I did leg work in them yesterday and they were nice. We'll see how they do on a run. They are 7/8 length which was perfect for my stumpy legs!

Today is election day and I voted. I'm not sure why but I love these little stickers!!

Since I am able to walk today after my Monday leg workout, I'm hopefull that the hobble/wobbles are behind me until I mix things up again. I took today off from the gym and watched V for Vendetta since it is November 5th after all. Remember, remember!

What kinds of things do you do besides running? Any favorite moves?

Recovery

This week I spent a lot of time on recovering from the half marathon last weekend.

Monday - I could barely move and had some migraine thing going on so I didn't make it to work but made it to the chiropractor and he fixed me up with a good crunching.

Tuesday - I went to my first Columbus Blue Jackets game and they won! I even got great and cheap seats b/c I donated blood!

Wednesday - I got my nails done! I was hoping for a fall color but didn't have any luck, so I went sparkly and girly. I was happy that all of my toenails decided to stay! This fact still freaks me out!

I also came home and made a healthy dinner. A little siracha never hurt anyone!!

Thursday - I got a massage with hot stones. This was my first experience with hot stones and it was amazing! My massage therapist (MT) is pretty awesome and used scented oils on me as well. She found some inflamation in my calves still, which kind of blew my mind, but she worked it out. I left her house a happy limp noodle! And proceeded to go home and work on getting my fluids in to flush out the toxins.

Friday - I went to my first OSU and BIG 10 volleyball game. OSU was playing Nebraska. Sadly they lost 3-1 but they were 4 good games to watch and very worth the $5 ticket.

Saturday - I was a bum and enjoyed sleeping in. Then I got motivated and kept working on chopping down the baby trees in my yard, still in my pjs and slippers. Sometimes I feel sorry for my neighbors. :) I got a decent amount done and then moved all the baby trees into a pile to dry out so I can actually use my fire pit next year!

After my yard work, I made some apple crisp and went to a cousin's house for dinner. We had some great lasagna followed by pool and then a bonfire!! Yay for Smores in October!

Today- I started out bumming it b/c it was cold and I didn't want to get out of bed. After deciding to get up, I made it to the gym for the first time since the half. I walked 2 miles b/c my left foot was hurting me and then did some abs and back. I even threw in some hip exercises. This time around, I want to incorporate more things into my workouts, like core, arms and other cardio equipment.

After the gym, I made a grocery list and hit up a new store in town called Lucky's Market. The place was packed and I had to fight for a parking spot!! It's a new organic/ local/ whole foods kind of place. I really liked what I saw and got $0.20 off my bill for my reusable bags!

I came home and started making chicken noodle soup. With it getting chilly around here, I thought it was appropriate. I made it in the crockpot and the chicken took a long time to cook but it was worth it!!

On another note, I've signed up for my 3rd year of the Holiday Booty Buster Challenge. If you'd like to know more about it, just ask or you can sign up here

What other things do you do in addition to your running? How long do you wait to get active after a half marathon?

I'm back!

Well, it's been almost a year to the day since I last posted and I'm sad about that. Things have been pretty crazy around here in that time. I took some time off of running and started back up after January 2013. I got more serious in June when I started training for the Columbus 1/2 marathon, which I ran in today.

I'm starting my blog back up because I will be training for my 5th 1/2 Marathon on May 3 in Columbus, OH, doing the Cap City 1/2 marathon. My plan for the winter is to train with my friend Anna and increase our speed and for Anna to finish, since this will be her first half!!

The Race

The race today was a pretty good one. After living in this city for almost a year and a half, I got to see some parts that I haven't had a chance to see on my own yet. I enjoy exploring cities this way. Here's a picture of me and my friend Jessie after the race today. This was her first half marathon and she did awesome!

As to an update on other things, here are my dog children now. It's a lot of fun to watch them romp around the yard. It's nice for Heif to finally have a playmate.

I look forward to keeping you up date on my training! Here's to a happy and healthy 5th 1/2 marathon!

It's a boy!!

No, I was not pregnant but did gain a new child. His name is Reve (pronounced Rev) and he is a Landseer Newfoundland like Heif. He was born Aug. 6 and I got him when he was 8 1/2 weeks old. I got him fromthe Watchbear Newfoundlands Kennel in Medina, OH.

This was our ride home.

I got him home and Heif wasn't sure what to think. Mostly, "Why is this thing always biting me?!" I think it took maybe an hour until they were best friends and play buddies. Heif and I didn't get much sleep that first night but I think having Heif there saved me a lot of sleepless nights of having a puppy all by his lonesome.

We are not impressed!!
There's a lot of playing, sleeping, peeing and pooping going on in my house and I'm glad that I have hardwood floors for that reason! I couldn't imagine what he would be doing to carpet if we had it! EWWW!

Lots of people have told me that I should have called him Mini Me and from this pictures I can totally see it!

Sacked out!
Mom and Dad even got to meet him on their way through town!

first bath at home!
They love playing in the yard! Reve likes to bite everything! Me, Heif, leaves, Heif's leash! He's very cute and I can't wait for him to be house broken. We are getting there. I just have to remind myself that he's still a baby!

At 9 weeks old he weighed 19.4 lbs and at 10 weeks he weighed 25 lbs. I take him for his 12 week shots in 2 weeks and will report how much he weighs then. It's amazing how much food and poop you have to deal with from 2 dogs! I guess I never thought it would be this much! But I have to admit that I'm loving every minute of it!

Rock Vegas - Day 2

After learning that the outside part of the day was free, we brought plenty to hydrate ourselves with!! It was a good thing too b/c it was hotter but we had some respite with an occasional breeze.

In the parking lot...

Conflict of Interest

There were fewer bands on the bill today so things started later and that meant things were hotter when we go there! We saw about half of Conflict of Interest's set and they were pretty good. I love seeing new bands that I've never heard of before!

Conflict of Interest

Otherwise
Otherwise was really good and now have 3 singles out off of their first album. When I saw them last year, they only had one. What a difference a year makes! These guys had a great turnout b/c they are from Vegas.

Otherwise

New Meds new drum art!
My favorite part of being outside was being front row, Brady's side, yet again to see New Medicine! I love these guys! They are moving up and currently are doing a small headlining tour in the west (boo!). I could watch them all day long! I can't wait for their new album to come out.

Brady!

Jake!

Rocking out!

Ryan! Why so serious?!

Brady!

Then we moved things inside. We decided to grab a bite to eat and then go to the show which made us late b/c they wouldn't let us take our leftovers in but our drinks were ok. Makes no sense. So we were late for Art of Dying but made up for it when we got to see them after. They are such nice guys! They remind me of my Canadian family every time I see them!

Corey Taylor of Stone Sour/ Slipknot
Corey Taylor was performing all alone b/c one of the Stone Sour guys had emergency appendix surgery. Funny enough, he opened with the SpongeBob Squarepants song!! It was hilarious! His set wasn't that long but it was just a cool experience seeing him up there with an acoustic guitar and just singing.

Corey Taylor

Buckcherry
Buckcherry surprised me with this performance. They were actually good and understandable. I don't know if it was too early for them to be wasted or if they are sober now but the performance was the best I've seen from them!

And then the weirdness started...
I knew to expect odd things from Marilyn Manson but he went above and beyond what I would consider weird from him. He came out and seemed normal but then the wardrobe changes started...

Marilyn Manson opening

MM as the pope?

MM ad guitarist. dude looks like a lady?

MM singing 'Dope Show'
He came out as the pope/a bishop with a smoke gun that he pointed to the crowd and then with a white fur/animal coat on.

...and he plays the guitar
Then this podium prop came out and he was dressed like Hitler and at the end tried to hand himself from the razor wire on top of the podium. WEIRD!

creepy backdrop and props

Then it was time for ZOMBIE!!
His set was amazing with all sorts of moving parts and lights and costumes! At one point, balls were released into the crowd and even bubbles! This was possibly the most over ever been entertained at a concert!!
Waiting for Zombie
Love his microphone stand!

ROB ZOMBIE!!

Encore!
Day 2 was very different from Day 1 but still awesome in it's own right. Each days had their highs and lows for me but very glad I went again.

Maybe I'll try ShipRocked next year. Ideas anyone?
